Gritty stuff

There's something about gritty films from the UK that I adore and I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's seeing how the others live after being bombarded with stiff upper lip stories for years, or maybe it's just the rawness of it all.Anyway, A Light Through Colored Glass is a low budget British entry that can be rather slow-burning at times but enthralling too. William is an organ player and a public access show host for a religious channel. His wife has left him and he meets a young foul-mouthed girl called Tina who is desperately in need of help. The two kinda hit it off and become friends, in a way. The film is full of bad language, and touches upon hard hitting subjects like drugs, addiction, debt, rape and more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it does have some rather excellent performances from the cast. As the Brits say, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it's not action packed, but if you want a peek into the lives of two completely different characters, it's certainly worth your time.

Hard-hitting Brit Drama

How far would you go to help a complete stranger? This seems to be the main subject in the British Drama film A Light Through Coloured Glass. Notice they spelled colored the way they do over the pond.I was actually taken in by this film, though it was immediate, I nearly turned it off during the first couple of minutes as it didn't look like it was going anywhere at first and started slow. William is a church organist and his wife has recently left him. He looks dishevelled and depressed, but soon finds himself in the company of Tina, a younger girl who is a world a way from William in terms of personality amd upbringing. Together they create a bond, illusionary as it actually is.The film covers many topics and many are hard to watch whilst some are actually humorous. I wasn't a fan of the explicit use of language though, but maybe it helped ground the film in realism and that's what they were going for. Overall, this is a really interesting watch.
