Plot summary

Australian television film based on alleged events surrounding the death of Caroline Byrne in June 1995. Byrne was found in the early morning of 8 June at the base of a cliff at The Gap, a notorious suicide spot in Sydney.

Strangely Watchable

The true-crime-reenactment film industry is so saturated you could throw a rock blindfolded and hit a hundred episodes. Yet this one kept my interest from start to finish.It raised many tantalizing threads and what-if's: Was Caroline depressed enough to take her own life, or too codependent to end an abusive relationship? Was Wood such a controlling monster he was capable of murder? Was Caroline the "girl who knew too much"?Cariba Heine endowed the role of Caroline with enough emotion and skill to be more than just a blonde bimbo who made bad choices in life. David Lyons was so convincing as the repugnant Wood I hope he didn't get typecast as the perennial villain.The supporting cast was equally strong, especially the investigators who relentlessly pursued the case year after year.An engrossing portrayal of justice denied.

Not a good rendition

This movie jumps around the timeline quite often. I really couldn't sympathize or dislike any of the characters due to the amount of jumping around. The bad guy yelled at the victim a few times in flashbacks, but we were not shown much incriminating material or actions from the bad guy. He seems like a stupid, but this doesn't make one a killer. We see that his story doesn't quite add up and that he has a few odd behaviors, but these are not explored beyond surface level. This entire movie is surface level. There were sad moments, but I was sad because the actors portrayed themselves as sad. They were great actors. It is natural to want to cry when you see someone cry, so this movie is mostly watching people be sad. The cinematography was not that great either. The music came in at awkward positions, but there are also too many quiet scenes. It had the vibe of a head-case movie with quiet conversations and super cold coloring. This was an all around sad movie.
