Incredibly slow paced and uneventful...

Needless to say that I was, of course, not familiar with the 2024 drama "A Night in 2005" prior to stumbling upon it here in 2026. And since I believe in giving all movies a fair chance, then of course I had to check it out. I virtually had no idea what I was in for here, so I sat down with an open mind and a clean slate. The storyline in "A Night in 2005", as written by Temidayo Makanjuola, was pretty slow paced and uneventful. Not even 45 minutes into the ordeal and I was good and ready to toss the towel in the ring and call it quits. But I endured, hoping that the movie would pick up in pacing and contents. And running at 116 minutes, the movie could have benefitted quite well from a more round-handed trim in post editing. The movie was singly too long and uneventful to sustain that long playtime.Given my extremely limited exposure to the Nigerian cinema, then I wasn't familiar with a single actress or actor on the cast list. The acting performances in the movie were fair. This was not really my cup of tea in terms of proper entertainment, and it most definitely is not a movie that I will ever pick up a second time.My rating of writer and director Temidayo Makanjuola's 2024 movie "A Night in 2005" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

Seeking for justice and healing

A Night in 2005 is a powerful Nollywood movie directed by Temidayo Makanjuola. It tells the emotional story of Ifelayo Fadairo (played by Ini Dima-Okojie), a woman dealing with the painful memories of a sexual assault that happened at a prom party in 2005. The film explores how this event affects her life years later as she seeks justice and healing. The acting in the movie is exceptional. Ini Dima-Okojie delivers a heartfelt performance, showing Ife's journey from pain to strength. Efa Iwara plays Opeyemi, a politician with a dark secret, and his portrayal is both intense and convincing. Uzoamaka Aniunoh also shines as Kelechi, Opeyemi's wife, adding depth to the story. The movie looks stunning, with beautiful shots that contrast the busy city life with peaceful rural scenes. This helps to highlight the movie's themes of power, ambition, and tradition. The story is thought-provoking, focusing on important topics like trauma, justice, and resilience.Although some people feel the ending was a bit rushed, the film keeps viewers engaged with its strong characters and emotional storyline. It's a bold and important movie that tackles real issues in society, making it a valuable addition to Nollywood's growing list of impactful films.
