Don't You Dare Call Them Llamas Unless You Have A Deathwish...

Almost 10 years in the making...Alpacalypse is the not-so-eagerly anticipated sequel to Llamageddon that noone was waiting for.It all begins when a young father is forced to sell his daughter's beloved alpacas when the family falls on hard times during the Christmas season.Unfortunately, the only one in the market is a nefarious research facility...whose experiments cause the alpacas to mutate into killer beasts, with laser eyes.Leaving it up to a black alcoholic mall Santa, and his two elves, to save the town from absolute destruction and a full alpaca takeover. Now, keep in mind, this is a C-grade horror flick (definitely below a B-horror, but slightly better than a D-grade "homemade" horror). The special effects are hilariously bad...but you've got to love them for trying. It's what gives the film it's endearing quality.Despite, otherwise, being really quite bad.I certainly had fun watching it though. And you might too.So give it a shot...if you are up for a cheesey bad Christmas horror good time.2.5 out of 10.

Great title; bad film.

I like llamas, but I love alpacas more: it's the crazy hairstyles that they have. My wife even got me an alpaca walking experience for my birthday one year. But as much as I enjoy the dumb looking animals with their silly barnets, I still didn't think much of Alpacalypse, which is only a slight improvement over Llamageddon. The film sees genetically engineered alpacas going on a killing spree during the Christmas holidays, zapping people with their glowing green eyes. Like Llamageddon, the film is bad by design, but nowhere near as much fun as the makers clearly intended it to be, the crap script, irritating characters, dodgy acting and lame special effects making it quite the test of one's patience, even at just 77 minutes. There is just one scene that I enjoyed: a man clipping an alpaca's coat gets a nasty surprise when the animal grabs hold of the shears. The effects for this scene aren't very realistic, but they are practical and extremely bloody, the alpaca skinning the man in graphic detail - it's a shame there wasn't more of this kind of excessive splatter in the film instead of all the dreadful CGI.The very stupid finalé sees a man in a Santa outfit flying a sled pulled by a team of alpacas; meanwhile, on the ground, a little girl breakdances. It doesn't make any sense, but I don't think it was meant to.
