A bloody good time with sharp humor and great visuals!

Vampire comedies can be a hit or miss, but Baban Baban Ban Vampire is definitely a hit. It's a fun, refreshing take on the genre that manages to keep you entertained without the jokes feeling forced or "garing." The setup-a vampire hiding in a Japanese bathhouse-is already hilarious, and the way the humor is packaged is actually quite clever. What's truly impressive is how well this film captures the "vibe" of its original manga. Often, live-action adaptations feel awkward when trying to replicate manga humor, but here, it feels seamless. The over-the-top expressions and the quirky obsession Ranmaru has with Rihito are translated perfectly to the big screen. It stays true to its roots while still feeling like a proper movie.Visually, I was impressed. The special effects aren't stiff at all; they feel natural and well-integrated into the scenes, which is a huge plus. You can tell they put effort into making the vampire elements look good without losing that cozy, traditional bathhouse aesthetic. However, the film isn't perfect. My main gripe is with the action. The vampire fight scenes felt a bit lackluster and lacked the "punch" I was looking for. Even though it's primarily a comedy, a movie like this still needs moments of real tension to keep the stakes high. Without those serious, high-energy battle sequences, the excitement feels like it has a bit of a "leak." A bit more grit in the fights would have balanced the comedy perfectly.Verdict: It's a solid, funny movie with great visual polish and a fantastic manga-to-film transition. If you don't mind the softer action scenes, the humor and the chemistry make it a very enjoyable watch.

Fun movie, great cast

I enjoyed this. It was quirky and funny and I loved the musical performances. The plot is goofy, but in a nice way. I wasn't aware that this was a BL before watching it, so that discovery was a pleasant surprise. I have a little discomfort with the unnecessary age gap (the real Ranmaru Mori passed at the age of 17, which would have been an appropriate age for this character, but instead, it is said that he has the biological age of 25?), but, because the actors are close in age, it's easy to forget and just enjoy the movie. Costumes were great and the characters were all likable (or, maybe I'm biased since Shinnosuke Mistushima happens to be one of my favorite Japanese actors, plus, I'm also a fan of Mandy Sekiguchi, as well as the other lead actors). The movie did feel like it ran a little long, though, so, I'm supposing there were probably areas where it dragged a bit. It wasn't easy to notice, though, that's just what I assume. I'm glad I was able to watch this close to Halloween season, too. Need more light-hearted things to watch.
