Family Memories

My wife wanted to add her two cents about this movie... Yeah, it's cheesy, and very 80's, but it's sweet. I just recently bought a copy of it on ebay. My family recorded it back when it was on TV in '86. I definately don't think this movie should be so over-anylazed, as it was a movie for kids, not for sarcastic 30-year olds who can't appreciate the wonderment of childhood. I think Drew Barrymore is a great actress and person, and she is so cute in this movie. Yeah, she's not a great actress, but she's lovable. I gave this a "10" because of what it meant to me as a kid. No matter how bad movies are, they have a special place in your heart. If you're 25, and you can remember a movie you loved when you were 8, then the movie accompished something. It stuck with you. It became a part of your life. And no bad, horrible reviews can diminish that. If everyone looked at the movies and TV they watched when they were kids, they would be disgusted. You don't think about details when you're a kid, you feel the emotion, and that's what this movie has. Plenty of it. It has imagaination and sincerity. My daughter loves it, and she's only 10 months old! So sit back, relax, gather the kids around, and prepare to enter Babes in Toyland!!

Not Suitable for Anyone Over 10

Not having had small kids around my house for a few years I can't say how they would react to this little made-for-TV movie. But I can say how my high school son, my spouse, and I reacted. The teenager walked out before the credits finished and my wife was asleep before Drew Barrymore reached Toyland. I just sat benumbed thinking that something, somewhere would be entertaining. No such luck.

Why'd I watch it? I found it laying around the house, it must of been stuck in the back of a closet for 13 years, and decided to give it a viewing before passing it on to charity.

It's bad medicine for anyone over the age of 10. Real bad.
