Great Balls of Tinsel

I'm only aware of this movie because my grandma bought the DVD some years ago. It's fair to say she has always been a sucker for both Whoopi Goldberg and animal themed movies, so I guess this one was a no-brainer. I believe this was my third viewing of Blizzard, and each time it has reminded me of Edward Scissorhands. Not the story so much, although you could possibly make a connection between the girls skating blades and Edwards scissor blades.. But rather specifically the, "let me tell you a story" aspect of both movies, where an older character tells a younger character a story which then visually transitions into the main story of the movie. This story telling technique is also done in The Princess Bride between Peter Falk and Fred Savage. What I can appreciate about Blizzard is that actual reindeer were used, not in the flying sequences of course.. But If the movie was made today, most likely every scene involving reindeer would be CGI. The non-CGI reindeer gave the North Pole scenes an authentic feel. The story and setting of the movie overall does a good job with the Christmas theme, and If you've ever wondered what Christopher Plummer would be like as Santa Claus, you may want to watch Blizzard.

Whoopi's voice ruins it

Whoopi Goldberg is the worst possible choice for a young reindeer! Ruins every scene she is in.
