Nice, but dreadfully inaccurate

Politics kept to a minimum!

Whilst Che Guevara was still alive and charging round the world in search of the perfect revolution the cinema was somewhat coy about making fiction feature films about him, but became less coy after his death on the 9th October 1967 in Bolivia. This Italian feature film released in 1968 as 'El "Che" Guevara' and directed by Paolo Heusch has Francisco Rabal playing Ernesto Che Guevara, the asthmatic revolutionary radical, tramping through the Bolivian jungle in an effort to overthrow the regime of Bolivian dictator Rene Barrientos. Unfortunately he has too few men spread too thinly, in a tough exhausting jungle environment, with supplies depleting and his asthma playing up. And to crown it all there are people chasing after him, including a CIA agent (John Ireland), and various Bolivian military figures. This rather mediocre film concentrates purely on the last few days and weeks in the life of Guevara (up to his capture on the 8th and murder on the 9th), and features some action scenes, but politics rather absurdly kept to a minimum, in a story/screenplay written by Adriano Bolzoni, and which is also apparently partly based on a book by Franco La Guidara.
