Delightful and Tender

**Chasing June (2025)**I loved this movie, even though it's definitely not for everyone. At its core, it's a beautiful coming-of-age story - occasionally a little juvenile, sure, but that's part of its charm. It's become my guilty pleasure. I kept thinking how amazing it would be to have someone like Dakota (played by the wonderful Annie Schwartz) in real life - first as a friend, and honestly, maybe a little more than that. The whole film feels like a sweet, impossible fantasy wrapped in the strongest feel-good vibes. The way Dakota bursts into the protagonist's quiet life is pure magic: she befriends him effortlessly, admires him openly, loves being around him, and keeps pulling him into her orbit to help solve problems she knows nothing about. She's this whirlwind of energy and joy that suddenly floods his world and makes him genuinely happy. The movie handles that dynamic so delicately and perfectly... until, of course, life forces them to pump the brakes. Then we jump to the epilogue: both are married to other people, seemingly content, and genuinely happy for each other. Still, you can feel that their first love remains etched in their hearts forever. Was falling in love so young their only crime? I couldn't help wondering.Overall, the film brought back a flood of my own childhood/teen memories, and the ending delivers a quietly brutal dose of real life. In an era of endless blockbusters and franchises, Chasing June feels refreshingly different. A very solid 7/10 from me.P. S. Annie Schwartz's Dakota reminded me a bit of young Alicia Silverstone - same bright, blonde magnetism - but without any of the cunning or calculated playfulness. Schwartz feels completely sincere and alive on screen. She's absolutely one to watch.

I watched this movie because it had an unbelievably high rating. I did not realize it was only from a couple of reviews. The acting was surprisingly good but the story and the dialogue was really basic. I found this movie to be slow, boring and unrealistic. And what decade is this supposed to be? They don't have cell phones? I was shocked to hear that they were supposed to be only 15. The initial friendship seemed completely random. They presumably all grew up there and went to the same school so I don't understand how they didn't really know each other before but then just all of a sudden decided to all be best friends. This doesn't seem like it was written by somebody who has any idea of what a modern day American high school is like. It's an unrealistically wholesome movie. An adventure like this anytime within the last 30 years would have had at least a hint of danger in some of the scenarios they found themselves. It felt like a lifetime movie or, better yet, and after school special if you're old enough to remember those.
