Nice idea, but not quite there.

Christmas Movie Magic (2021) -Alli (Holly Deveaux) was sent to write a story about the place where a famous Christmas Film with an iconic Christmas song was filmed 65 years before. She was told to make it sweet and festive, but of course she wanted to be a hard hitting journalist not write fluff pieces. As a result she was always looking for an angle and was generally very cynical with a slightly scroogey attitude towards the season. And because of that it was initially hard to like her. It's never easy when they don't like Christmas anyway, but she just felt pushy and overly officious. It was also hard to believe that a news provider would spend money sending a reporter for a week away just for one simple story. And it has been done before, sometimes better, sometimes worse, but it has definitely been done. The guy always gets a bed in his bonnet about the story just to create drama towards the end of their blossoming romance and so on.As the film continued a mystery was discovered and the pair explored the town, and its seasonal events, trying to find out about a person only known as "D" from a note relating to the star of the film Walter Andrews (Robin Dunne).Personally it might have been interesting if the "D" person they were looking for was actually a man just to add to the reason why it was a secret. It was incredibly obvious who D was going to end up being however.I did feel that they'd underestimated the ages of those that were in the film or at least living in the town at the time, most of which should have been at least 85 years old. Mrs Caldwell (Jackie Richardson) and Grandma (Jill Frappier) certainly didn't seem that mature. Also, there was no way that Robin Dunne's Walter grew up to be that 90 something version played by Patrick Rose. They were just completely different shapes. And as I've said it wasn't exactly a story I hadn't seen before, but also because there were a lot of cliches regarding Walter, his being a recluse, a secret affair, the romance in general and the film from the past. But it was nice that the timeline was at least achievable for a change with none of that "3 days to put on a show" or "24 hours to save a farm" silliness. And in the actual leading man role it was hard not to like Drew Seeley as Brad. That was kind of his purpose, to be the voice of heart and soul and show the joy of the season to the miser. He did sound like a bit like a teenager though.Other than that Brad's niece Chloe (Georgia Vaughn) was dire! Sickly and incomprehensible. And Brad was right that the tree lighting was disappointing and under attended. Also some of the direction was a bit contrived. Walking to stand in front of a mirror for a fancy shot, pacing in the office and so on. It just jarred a bit.I do have to say that the song that they had raved about all the way through was at least not the awful tripe that they usually chuck out however. It was sweet, but it was definitely no 'White Christmas' which I could only assume the film within the film was sort of parodying. With all that said it was a nice collection of clichés and heartfelt. Even if I never really connected with Alli. Strangely she did go well with Brad, but I felt that he would have a lot of work to do to keep her from going full Grinch once their relationship developed further. She would probably always be chasing a story and not caring who got hurt and how that affected them as a couple.I also thought that the ending that they chose was a nice way to finish on a high, leaving a warmth and nice energy.6.39.88/10.

noble intentions

I like it fo For the retro air. For the desire to craft a different Christmas movie in Hallmark style. For venerable actors and for the references to classics ( indeed, a pig in leach is not a leopard ).But the basic sin remains the forced use of pieces. The twist is far to impress. The search and the reaction to article are not very inspired .Remains the delicate flavors of old times. And a modest, against its ambitions, Christmas film. The beautiful detail - the confession of Margaret Westdale about the romance of youth. So, the gratitude to Jill Frapier can be one of precious gifts of film. Is it enough ? Maybe.

Christmas Movie What?

I really enjoyed this movie. At last Mar Vista did a decent thing here. That is until the very end.

The climax of the story actually brought a tear to my eye and I was excited to see such a wonderful story culminate in the MCs love for one another. And then that stupid kiss at the end. What is even up with that? I don't know what's going on with the idea of the camera angles but they're obstructive and they destroy a good thing. Are they afraid I'm going to see a slip of the tongue or actual lips touching? They should be embarrassed.

Well, what did I expect. Whether it's Lifetime or Hallmark, they both have a way of destroying a good story and the really good ones are so rare.

I don't know what they were trying to do with this ending but it was by far one of the sappiest most ridiculous things I've ever witnessed in any of these movies. They took a wonderful story and completely ruined it. I don't even know if I can bring myself to watch another one.

If you want to see decent Christmas romance movies check out Netflix. At least you know the couple's having sex before they even utter those three words and it's a refreshing change to this nonsense.
