A Modest Holiday Drama with Heart, but Uneven Execution

Christmess is an indie holiday film that aims to mix festive warmth with grounded, character-driven storytelling. While it doesn't fully deliver on all fronts, it offers a sincere, occasionally touching exploration of redemption and second chances. The story centers around a recovering addict who reconnects with his estranged daughter during the Christmas season. The premise is compelling, and there are genuinely heartfelt moments sprinkled throughout. The lead performance is earnest, and the film benefits from its raw, unpolished charm. However, the pacing can be sluggish at times, and the emotional beats occasionally feel forced or underdeveloped. Some scenes linger a bit too long, while others could have used more time to breathe. Tonally, the film wavers between drama and sentimentality, not always finding the right balance. That said, Christmess deserves credit for attempting something more grounded than your typical holiday fare. It's a small film with good intentions and enough sincerity to resonate with viewers looking for a more realistic spin on holiday redemption stories.

A Touching True To Life Gem

This isn't yout normal touchy feely unbelievable overdone Christmas film. It's about situations that could be happening right now. It's a story about struggling with redemption self belief and over coming battles with addiction. The film is full of heart and grounded in reality. The story is engrossing and the chemistry between Steve Le Marquand and Darren Gilshenan is a thing of beauty. This is a touching drama with some funny moments.Casting Hannah Joy was a master stroke she shines in this film. The always outstanding Steve Le Marquand and Darren Gilshenan are sensational in this film. Not everyone has a Merry Christmas but this film shows hope in a struggling time.I hopy everyone enjoys this film half as much as I did..

Better than the ratings with one plot fault

The is film was so much better than the a lot of the ratings here on IMDB. I certainly don't understand anyone giving it a one star. But a couple of things. It is described here as a comedy, which it is not, although it has some mildly comedic moments.Secondly, much is made of Chris not putting out the bins on Christmas Eve. Where in the world do dustbin men work on Christmas day? That aside, it's not a bad story of addictions and recovery and their knock on effect to those that deal with them. Certainly better than the ratings, so don't avoid it.
