A Fairly Good Overview

I've watched many in-depth documentaries about the video nasty era so this one about David Hamilton-Grant doesn't offer much in the way of new information for me, but it's still a fairly good overview of the only man who was prosecuted and imprisoned for distrubution of a video nasty, namely, Nightmares In A Damaged Brain. Its a shame more research was not done on his later life. They gloss over it very quickly and that seems like it could be interesting.As an aside, what angered me as a teenager in the 1980's and what still irks me now about the whole video nasty era, was the Mary Whitehouse brigade telling everyone what they could and couldn't watch without ever doing any proper research. It was all salacious tabloid headlines, fake statistical research and using children as a way of legitimising it all. They were hideous, holier than thou hypocrits. Censorship never works, it just makes everyone more determined to watch.Most of the films on the 'banned' list were actually very poor films that would have faded into insignificance very quickly. What Whitehouse and her cronies did was turn them into 'holy grails' that are still sought after and written about over 40 years on. What's even funnier is that nearly all of them are now available uncut on streaming.
