JEER - (4 stars out of 10)

The stage curtains open ...This is basically a verbatim remake of the 1987 film, "Stripped to Kill". Both films were pretty bad, but I would have to say that overall, "Stripped to Kill" is the better of the two. Though, this movie does have its good points, despite the crash landing ending. Still trying to cash in on the "stripper thriller", Roger Corman brings us this newer realized vision of what is beginning to become a tired retread story that ultimately doesn't pay off, despite the beautiful nude women pole dancing on stage.Strippers are being murdered and their bodies are being found in the downtown area of Los Angeles. Tired of being pushed off and away from real detective reporting, Kelly finally gets her big break when her boss agrees to let her go undercover as a stripper at the Bottoms Up club. As she pokes around trying to get a bead on who the killer is, she teams up with a police detective, who she soon falls for. We are introduced to possible suspects and uncover motives and hidden agendas until the killer goes after her. Now, all bets are off and she is fighting for her very life. The 1st act of this film was actually fairly good. I felt the foundation was laid nicely, characters were fleshed out (excuse the pun), and the story was developing nicely. The dancers were beautiful, and the music perfect for the material. The 2nd act kept it interesting, but started to lose its footing somewhat as we watch more bodies pile up. This is when I started to lose interest. The only way to be scratched off as a suspect in this film was to get killed. The 3rd and final act was atrocious. It was almost like they found some footage from another movie and just slapped in the end. It was completely different in tone from the movie previous to that point. For example, the killer had just revealed themselves, but then (for some unknown reason) decides to put on a black stocking mask and long brown overcoat. Our reporter is chased mercilessly through a warehouse where she beats them across the head with a large wooden 2x4, stabs them with a knife, knocks the snot out of them again with a metal pipe ... but still they keep coming for her. Finally, being doused in gasoline and set ablaze does the trick - LOL. But, only after standing there for eternity screaming because they have gasoline on them instead of running away when they had the chance.Yeah, this was just soooooo bad at the end, it knocked my rating way down. This is not a recommend. "Stripped to Kill" really isn't much better, but at least it was better than this one was. If you just want to see strippers and don't care about the rest, then this is your late night fix.
