Boring Flashbacks

The movie starts out with a fair amount of low budget action. The special effects are from Party City. Numerous security types machine gun a door and it has the same ten holes in it no matter how many shots are fired.Byron Mann (Ryu in the Street Fighter movie of 1994) is the lead actor. He plays a guy who is picked by Robert Patrick (the evil scientist) to be implanted with a new super-chip that makes him super smart, fast, etc. It is also supposed to give Robert Patrick control over him.When Patrick gives Mann a test run in front of a CIA op and some investors, Mann breaks out. In the process he shoots about 25 mall security types and never needs to reload his handgun. He also downloads all of Patrick's master files, and even re-writes the code for himself in about two minutes.The rest of the movie is totally boring. Mann meets up with another chipped agent, and spends about an hour telling her his story, and the same clips of the same lab escape are played about five times.Mann programming code is also replayed a few times. Watching a guy typing code was boring enough the first time. He also throws in memory clips of him talking to other chipped agents and getting them to kill targets. It is a lot more boring than reading this.Eventually at the end of the movie, we get a fight scene that is pretty entertaining. We also get revenge from the tomb (or the brain dead), which was a nice touch.Dark Assets takes about 15 minutes of action, and replays into a 90 minute movie with a lot of explaining of the same clips over and over again.

Activate Female Assisstants

The film opens with 1980s font and a bad soundtrack. It doesn't get much better. John Doe (Byron Mann) is a Special Ops agent with a chip planted in his head. They can use a computer and place suggestions in his head. It is the brainchild of Dr. Cain (Robert Patrick) who is career is quickly sliding. John Doe goes rogue and shoots up the place killing a bunch of heavily armed folks. He drives to a hotel where he meets Jane (Helena Mattsson- "Species 4" beauty) and tells her a story. It is about everything that has happened to him and about the project. None of which she believes. But he offers her his Lamborghini to listen so she does.The film had potential, but unfortunately a small budget. The acting and dialogue were not great and the plot was one of those that you knew was going to get better as you watch it with teasers, but it never happens.Guide: No swearing. Brief sex. No nudity.

Worth watching. Once

A fairly good story hampered by a lack of Budget.More cash would have gotten this movie a better tech advisor, stunt and or fight coordinator, armorer, military advisor, special effects and another editing pass or three. Did they rent a steady-cam and run out of funds? Various shots look like they did. If not I think it was a poor decision.I DID like how they played the story out through various flashbacks over drinks. Nice choice there.The acting by most of the main cast is solid but the secondary cast not so much.As is it's worth watching once for what could have been a pretty great movie.
