Plot summary

An evil is unleashed in a small town when a logging company sets up shop in the neighboring woods. Isolated and threatened, a mysterious force hidden within the trees outside the small town of Maiden Woods, strikes fear in the townspeople as Sheriff Paul Shields attempts to overcome the demons of his past while protecting those that he loves.

Good for Kevin Durand

Although there are no truly new or astonishing things done in this film, it is good to see Kevin Durand in a lead role. He has played all kinds of characters, which are typically antagonists, he is a very talented actor. So, I tip my cap to him in this thriller.

Another cheap digital horror flick

MONSTER HUNTER is yet another cheap-looking digital horror flick about a monster on the loose in the woods and assailing the inhabitants of a small village. As usual it's up to the local sheriff department to sort things out in the form of Kevin Durand and Lukas Haas, two likeable actors who do their very best with the material here. Sadly, they don't have a great deal to work with and attempts at slow-burning atmosphere often fall flat. The film's dulled visuals are the worst aspect, and although things pick up for the climax, the cheaper-than-cheap SFX are a real letdown.
