A Family film with a difference.

I really liked this. It's a very sharp and witty film with a heart and emotional depth. It's loosely based on real life surrounding the death of Izzy Roland's dysfunctional and absent father, and involves her real life Mom, Stepfather and Grandparents. The family dynamic works so well in the screen relationships and banter that you forget that this is fiction, and not reality. You like and recognise these characters.Vic Michaelis gives great and personally recognisable big sister vibes and the script crackles with wit and comedic timing. The ending is warm and emotional without being manipulative and you will finish the film with a smile on your face and maybe a tear in your eye.I saw this Film on 14 October in London.

Its a good movie go watch it!!!!

Dead (2025) is a darkly comic, character-driven film that explores grief, family tension, and emotional disconnection through a subtly surreal lens. After the death of her estranged father, a young woman finds herself emotionally out of sync with her family, whose ways of coping sharply contrast with her own detachment. Blending dry humor with quiet melancholy, the film uses its supernatural premise less for scares and more as a metaphor for how differently people process loss. Rather than offering easy answers or conventional catharsis, Dead stands out as an intimate, thoughtful meditation on unresolved relationships, memory, and the uncomfortable truths that surface after someone is gone.

Something special

I backed this film on Kickstarter on Sept 12 2024 because I wanted to support artists that I liked. I wasn't expecting much out of an independent film, especially a first film. I ended up liking this so much more than I ever could have expected. The script is sharp and focused. So often, especially with first films, you end up having pointless subplots, too much exposition, or just plan meandering. Not here - once you have a chance to meet the main cast, understand their personalities, and get the backstory filled out, it knows to move on to the main plot. They also did a great job with the overall character development. The acting is also incredibly sharp, especially since half of the cast aren't even professional actors. I was glad to get to see Vic play some serious parts and like I suspected, they can do it just as well as their comedic roles. Izzy brought so much more realistic emotion to the screen than I ever thought she was capable of; I was really impressed. No spoilers here - but everything resolved in a way that I didn't expect, but at the same time, exactly the way it should have.I really had a good time with this. Can't wait to watch it again.
