Compelling & Emotional Documentary

I did not know who Donyale Luna was before watching this movie. I learned that Donyale, as a model and actress, worked with many important artists, photographers, and creatives of this time period, the early 1960s. Sadly, her life ended much too soon. This story is compelling and should be seen and discussed in even more detail. The film is fascinating & almost unbelievable. I can see Zendaya winning an Oscar for playing Donyale in her story. I was really moved by this film and I highly recommend it.

Yet Another "Victim" another "First black..."

It's the same drivel. Had this been about the woman, the model, the artists - it gets all washed away that she was black, and because she was black she was stopped from doing things in our society. It's a bunch of BS. The footage they use is pre-1964 - yet following the civil rights act, she was extremely successful. It's about demand of the supply. She had a drug issue - but I'm sure it was just because she was black.This is just another tiring documentary not about the person identifying her color, but only her identification because of her color. And that in itself disqualifies this as a decent documentary.

LUNA

Truly affecting documentary on the first black supermodel. Donyale Luna was a visiting Angel from Heaven with an unearthly exquisite beauty and an unbounded capacity for revolutionary invention.Tragically, a completely misunderstood and unappreciated Angel whose innocence was shattered by the forces of evil in the guise of the drug culture of the time.How did she die? It's suspicious. Her final husband and his conservative parents may have had something to do with it but that tragic possibility is only hinted at.A number of the interviewees cry in this documentary and I cried too. An Angel - too beautiful and unique to stay on this earth for long.
