Out of this world romantic comedy...

I only knew about "Earth Girls Are Easy" from the title. I didn't know the plot, nor did I know who starred in it. So as I stumbled upon it by random chance in 2022, and seeing that the movie had some nice talents on the cast list, of course I had to watch this 1988 comedy.Writers Julie Brown, Charlie Coffey and Terrence E. McNally put together a very light-hearted and likeable out-of-this-world comedy. I was genuinely entertained by the storyline in "Earth Girls Are Easy", and it made for an easy viewing.The character gallery in "Earth Girls Are Easy" was good, especially the three aliens played by Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans."Earth Girls Are Easy" has a pretty impressive cast ensemble, and it was nice to see Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum together on the screen once more. But the movie also have the likes of Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, Michael McKean and Charles Rocket on the cast list.The special effects in "Earth Girls Are Easy" were rather simplistic, but I have to admit that I definitely loved the design of the alien creatures.I was genuinely entertained by director Julien Temple's 1988 comedy. And if you haven't already seen this movie, and get the chance to do so, you most certainly should.My rating of "Earth Girls Are Easy" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Earth Woman Are Complex and... Stuff

Wow, not sure what I thought this would be, but it wasn't this! Still, this was a bonkers ride of pure campy delight. Goldblum was so fun doing his smoldering thing, Carrey and Wayans were great as goofy side characters and Davis... Ok, Geena is doing everything she can with this but this is a horribly written woman. She catches her fiancé about to cheat on her and she's constantly looking for any excuse to take him back. Come on, woman! Have some self-respect! Also, her doctor man (Rocket) is... He's a nice guy / creep / sadistic butcher? He's both trying to cheat on Davis, not wanting to cheat on her, then wanting to cheat again... Nice guy but immediately wants to hack someone's chest open when he hears an irregular heartbeat? He's kinda all over the map. All that aside, the three aliens and Davis are a delightfully whacky team of goofball antics.

Day-glo comedy-musical...lots of energy, but not enough jokes

Campy, brainless comedy with music about a beautician--on the mend after kicking out her cheating fiancé--who gets an unexpected visit from three furry aliens and their spaceship, which lands in her swimming pool. Decked out in fluorescent colors, and with overtures to pop-music videos, "Earth Girls" is now little more than a relic from the 1980s. Director Julien Temple doesn't seem to know how to shape individual scenes (such as a frenetic dream sequence) for comedic impact--and he shows no sense of satire (the musical moments are flat). As a result, the blobby film has some bounce (mostly due to its likable cast) and cartoony color, but little hilarity. *1/2 from ****
