A Fine Piece of Cinema

"Fathers and Mothers" is a fine piece of filmmaking directed by Paprika Steen.The film captures what it means to be parents in the modern classroom, where parents should be focusing on improving and maintaining the children's good manners and mutual well-being. Instead, they are busy competing for the principal's recognition and for a place in his closed, so-called "swimming club."The film is constantly in motion; it never stands still and is never boring for the viewer. It is not difficult to understand. It is a drama with subtle elements of dark comedy, and it should not be seen as a comedy film so much as a dramatization of a parent's pursuit of recognition among other parents in society.

Nobody is likeable

I try to be spoilersless. About halftime my wife gave up, I was hoping that besides showing the current situation something will advance in.the character of anyone. But nope, maybe toward the negative sign. I see it shows this particular part of society, which is done well, but jokes don't land too well (when a scene starts I mostly knew where it will run to), so for me it was not really a comedy. As a starting point it would have been OK, but feels like it had to be quickly closed. Ending is not rushed, just feels meaningless.

If there is nothing else coming up, still watchable, but you can find better choices from Danish cinema (though not comedies recently).
