Frozen Impact met my low expectations

"Frozen Impact" is typical of many TV movies that deal with the weather. It is a safe film for the family, which is quite an accomplishment these days, but it lacks in other areas. It has the typical plot of a family juggling work, health, and relationship concerns while a fierce hail storm named "Medusa" rolls through town. The hail storm is way overdone, as baseball sized hailstones fall intermittenly on a town in Vermont. The hail is unrealistic. Though the main focus of the movie is the weather, there doesn't seem to be much knowledge about how the weather works among the producers, directors, and writers of this film. I ended up losing patience with the film. But for those eternal optimists, there is a happy ending. I rate this movie 2 out of 10.

Watchable, but generic...

Now, the fact that the movie starts out with an obvious toy model replica of a farm house and pickup truck being bombarded by ice pellets didn't exactly set the bar of expectations for this movie high. I was laughing so hard at that scene, and still opted to continue watching the movie, hoping that it would be a suckfest of a movie so bad that it would be an enjoyable and fun movie to watch. The storyline was pretty straightforward, but also generic and formulaic. Writer Scott Brown didn't exactly revolutionize the natural disaster genre of movies here back in 2003. But it made for an adequate enough viewing experience, if you enjoy these types of movies.Of the entire cast ensemble, I was only familiar with Ted McGinley, Stacy Keach and Kenneth Kimmins. The acting performances in the movie were actually fair. The effects in "Frozen Impact" were pretty bad, even for a movie made in 2003. So don't get your hopes up. But then again, the very opening scene pretty much tells it all. While it was a watchable movie, it is hardly a movie that warrants more than a single viewing. Nor does it stand out amidst the movies in the natural disaster subgenre of movies. My rating of director Neil Kinsella's 2003 movie "Frozen Impact" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.
