Is there a reason why the DVD didn't offer subtitles?

Amos Gitai is a leading figure in Israeli cinema. His "Kedma" is widely seen as a rebuttal to "Exodus". I decided to rent his "Golem, the Spirit of the Exile", only having a loose understanding of the plot. Apparently it's the third chapter in his Exile trilogy, and the middle chapter in his Golem trilogy.Unfortunately, the DVD didn't offer English subtitles! Therefore, the only part that I could truly understand was the sequence with Sam Fuller, since that was mostly in English (and it was cringe-inducing to see him shirtless with a much younger woman).I only watched about half an hour before realizing that it made no sense to keep watching if I wasn't going to fully understand what was happening. Maybe one day there will be an edition that makes sure to include subtitles.
