Worth a watch if you're looking for something truly different. It will definitely leave you asking, "What did I just watch?"

I recently watched the Vinegar Syndrome-released North Macedonian ?? film Goodbye 20th Century (1998) on a random streaming site. This is a post-apocalyptic, grindhouse-style movie that's essentially split into two segments. The first takes place on the streets, where a clash between a crime boss and a rival gang escalates into an epic showdown. The second segment pits Santa Claus against crime bosses. The film is co-directed by Darko Mitrevski (The Third Half) and Aleksandar Popovski (Balkan Is Not Dead) and stars Lazar Ristovski (Casino Royale), Nikola Ristanovski (Upside Down), and Toni Mihajlovski (Toma).DC Comics should probably be collecting royalties, because the first segment feels like a street-gang war with one faction led by The Joker, while the second segment plays like Santa vs. Harley Quinn. The film is very artsy and abstract, with low-budget cinematography that leans heavily into a gritty '70s grindhouse aesthetic. That said, the costumes, settings, and backdrops are well done. The action scenes-especially the shootouts-exceeded my expectations. The masks are effective, there's a surprisingly well-executed resurrection scene, and the cocaine-fueled moments had me cracking up. Santa is easily the highlight, whether it's his line about "how he wants to be carried" or watching him get brutally jumped and fight for his life. There's a lot going on here, and even the soundtrack is excellent. In conclusion, Goodbye 20th Century is worth a watch if you're looking for something truly different. It will definitely leave you asking, "What did I just watch?" I'd give it a 7/10 for originality.

At last: THE end-of-millennium story

As an admirer of the director's tandem, I must admit that Orbis Non Sufficit for them! If this story was to be filmed in some of the richest European [warning: not World] productions, it would have been a hit in hand. This way, only selected circles can see and enjoy the saga of the real world future, the excellent 'Ubermakedonische' in the background, as well as one of the hottest love scenes filmed ever [bravo Mirko&Slavko + Sofi]. Highly recommendable 'indie' for the people who expect everything from virtually nothing.
