Graphic Desires: Softcore silliness

PlotWhen reclusive Franklin cheats on his partner with a mysterious girl he meets on a dating app, it becomes the start of a deadly obsession.CastMay Kelly and nobody else I'm familiar with.VerdictI'm making a May Kelly list (Don't ask) and that's the only reason I wound up watching this. Her movies are usually appalling ITN flicks such as Three Blind Mice, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey or Mary Had a Little Lamb but sprinkled in there are also some nuggets of actual entertainment, this is not entirely one of them but certainly an improvement on what she normally does.Essentially an erotic thriller full of softcore action I was quite taken back how graphic it was in places and how long it all went on for. I shouldn't have been surprised about the latter, after all that's what this was always intended to be. If you're wanting a proper feature film you're looking in the wrong place, this is softcore porn with a wafer thin story.Now regarding the story it wasn't entirely terrible and the twist at the end though not fantastic was at least very unpredictable, I can confidently say nobody will see that coming.The cast are competent enough, but the characters are contemptable and that's what really damaged the film for me. I'm supposed to root for these people? Absolutely not.The film is well executed and fairly interesting but horrid characters and this being an erotic thriller with minimal substance really lowered the potential ceiling.RantsErotic thrillers just aren't really much of a thing anymore are they? I think the 90's was when they were at their peak. Whether it be big budget titles like Basic Instinct, Body of Evidence, The Last Seduction or Color of Night or the countless straight to VHS titles there were so very very many of them. Why did they fade out? Did actual porn push them to one side? Are people more prudish? Intriguing start leads to confusion

Quite a different erotic thriller type film about a character falling for a girl he meets on an app leading to an inevitable deep path.This film is definitely engaging for the most part as it isn't completely predictable yet it seems like it never knew exactly the type of film it wanted to be. Perhaps a throwback to 90's erotic thrillers blended in with this new age flavor.The lead character Franklin isn't entirely unlikeable yet he isn't likeable enough to root for. Solid acting from the cast- that isn't the problem.As a film, we see both him and his girlfriend Candida cheat (she cheats with his best friend- whom he never finds out). Another film where the "best friend" is the backstabber yet at the same time helping out the main character.Graphic Desires is quite bizarre. Featuring several intense explicit scenes throughout. A lot of bright colors and flashes are prominent.The film sort of loses its steam and goes it a different direction towards the last part. Around when the Franklin buys a guy and becomes more threatening and bold.We don't understand as to why he was so aggressive into finding this girl and why he cheated (gf cheated also) when his girlfriend was a clear standout. It wasn't too clear whether or not he knew that she was cheating.Quite a sad depressing ending with a lot of confusion in the final moments. The entire "deepfake" thing mentioned wasn't exactly clear. Several late twists seemed to be added for the sake of it. Such as the very ending scene. Where exactly did that girl come from and what did the conversation between her and the guy mean?Overall, not a bad film. There is definitely a lot of intrigue happening. Yet it does feel like it tries too hard by throwing in these twists without any real payoff. Felt sort of rushed in the end.
