Not what I expected.....

More about people than about war

What I appreciated most was how the film explored human nature. The German officer wasn't just a villain - you could tell he had emotional intelligence and could read people, even while carrying out harsh duties. The young American officer, still idealistic, stood out by trying to challenge injustice, while the raw racism among the American soldiers was portrayed in a painfully honest way. The story had its flaws and some slightly dramatized parts, but it wasn't overdone. Not the most thrilling film, but far from boring. The soundtrack was a really nice touch - subtle, but it stayed with me, it's worth watching.
