Better adaption than the original

Haunted Mansion is the 2023 Reboot of the famous spooky Disney ride. It follows around a single mother recruiting people to help her exorcise the ghosts from her mansion. The main focus of the story is on LaKeith Stanfield, a paranormal guide with a tragic past. I love KaKeith as an actor and he carries this movie. He is the emotional center of the story and he brought his "A" game to a movie that he didn't have to try as hard. I got a little teared up a couple of times because of him. The rest of the cast is ok. They mostly serves as comic relief and certain roles for the team and plot. The story is good. They actually have a great explanation on why the family doesn't just leave the mansion. The villain and ghost are great. If you are a fan of the ride, there are a lot of references and nodes but none of them feel really forced. This is a nice fun movie that should be near Halloween, not sure why they released it in July. I enjoyed this way more than the Eddie Murphy movie. Kids will have fun with it and adults can enjoy it too around Halloween.

I was scared it was never going to end

So, Haunted Mansion is the story of a single mam who buys a low price mansion for her and her son to make a new start.

Finding out that it seems to be haunted by some malignant ghosts she hires a motley crew of people to help her clean the house of super naturals.

The storyline sounds great and when you see it's Disney you think you're in for a great surprise. Sadly it is a massive let down.

Some of the sets are nice, and the effects are great. But I wasn't invested at all in most of the characters as they had no dialogue that helped us get to know them. (Apart from Owen Wilson, who I normally dislike) Apart from Wilson, Dawson and DeVito there was very little if any star quality, and acting was definitely sub par.

The music isn't great and at no time did it feel suspenseful, funny, scary, uplifting or emotional. It was a flat and featureless land of a film with not many redeeming features at all.

It took me 5 tries at watching to get to the end and I was so relieved when I did.

Sorry Disney, I give you and F for flop.
