A waste of Stephen Lang

Even as a low budget B movie it falls short. The direction and camera work is poor, the sound effects in particular stand out as something they found on a free site. The only saving grace is Stephen Lang who as always gives it his all. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Harvey Keitel who phones it in without ever even leaving the one room I his house.A special mention for the god awful flesh back scene which I'm assuming was done by the second crew. It's absolutely laughable.

Not the best, but I don't regret watching it...

Stephen Lang plays a sort of geriatric one-man army in this flick about a small redneck type town taken over and bullied by a cocaine cartel. It's a bit far-fetched to say the least, and some parts a bit over the top to put it mildly. A former special forces guy, Lang just happened to drift into town and managed to get involved while innocently looking for some work in return for lodging and a meal.Fellow geriatrics Dolph Lundgren and Harvey Keitel also join the show, so there was some legitimacy in the casting. Both were decent in playing their parts, as was Lang. But the whole show came across as a last ditch Go-Fund-Me Movie for actors looking for another payday before the end of their careers. As a geriatric sort myself, I honestly can't blame them for that! Not totally horrible, certainly not a great movie, and had a twist to the story at the end, more of a clarification of things really. Overall it was enough to amuse me for couple hours, which is okay. Movies should be fun.

Entertaining low budget TV movie

Hellfire offers all the worn-out tropes of the man without a name - the unknown avenger, a man who has experienced hardship, pain and personal trauma - who enters a community and finds that justice must be meted out in the only way he knows how (oh, he's ex-Special Forces - how original!) using the deadly skills he's hoping to never use again.Although the story arc is way too familiar, there is some entertainment value here. As to be expected, that entertainment comes from the goodie overcoming the baddies. Key characters are very thinly drawn, just as the cliched plot is, but this movie still offers enough to keep you amused through its too-long running time. And, while great to see the key actors involved, their participation is purely functional - the bought, baddie cop, and the powerful drugs lord. That said, in terms of Hellfire being a TV movie with a limited script, they do what's required of them.Overall, one gets the impression this could be a pilot for a TV series. Perhaps there is actual potential in such a thing, but a greater sense of gritty reality is certainly needed (plus bigger budgets and better scripts!). I rate this 4.5/10 - with 6/10 being my minimum for anything I consider I might like to watch again in the future. So, entertainment to be had, but don't expect anything more than a TV movie.
