Impressive and Deep Psych Horror

This movie is an impressive story, which is simple on the surface, but as it progresses you see the layers and connections growing more and more with each tense moment. Pretty incredible performances by the cast, and the writing is purposeful without being too heavy handed.Highly recommend this movie to anyone who appreciates deep themes and philosophical and psychological questions and examination.

Philosophically Speaking

As a philosophy teacher (retired), the movie Herman, simply put, is a diamond in the rough within the Indie film industry. Andrew Vogel's story is a thoughtful investigation about oneself and simultaneously a psychological/philosophical thriller with a splash of spirituality. Vogel's intent is not to focus on the audience as a group but instead the individual glued to his/her seat. The film becomes a laser penetrating so deep that the viewer becomes Herman. The great Danish philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard(1813-1855), once described philosophy as the search for self understanding. Vogel personifies this thought throughout his film. This artistic endeavor will take the viewer on a journey that great minds like Socrates and others would embrace. In fact, the character Max(played by Vogel)becomes a modern day Socrates, badgering Herman(Colin Ward)with questions in the hope that the truth will ascend from the depth of his soul. Scary? You bet! Terrifying because the human condition is so apprehensive to look inward, yet so comfortable critiquing others and the world around us. Hold onto your seat and enjoy this roller coaster of a ride. If you invest yourself, it's this viewer's opinion you'll be a better person for it.

Saw 7.2 didn't see six votes

This movie starts really strong, it has a great vibe, simple idea but I was really interested. I could tell the acting was gonna be old school indie but they seemed solid with the two nuns and Herman, good enough to not be distracting. And it has some black screen time skipping of ten minutes or an hour in an interesting way. But whoa this movie tried to be too many things and ended up with a camel. The black nun who is easily the best character and acting has some really noticeable and unique lines and ideas I thought but they do nothing with it. It just keeps putting a hat on a hat and it quickly loses the claustrophobic four semi strangers in a cabin during a massive storm. If you like really like small budget and need a short movie this is fine, but anything more than that you'll be super disappointed like I was when I saw a horror movie with a 7.2 lol.
