Not Worth a Sequel

Like its predecessor, High Rollers is a heist thriller almost good provided you can turn off your brain. It's light, occasionally likable but it takes a lot of shortcuts and Ives doesn't capture the same over-achievement vibes as the first one. The absence of Kristin Davis replaced here with a so-so Gina Gershon negates things too. The music score is ultra-annoying.

Slight step down from the original yet intriguing enough

High Rollers is the direct follow up sequel to the 2024 film Cash Out. And we are certain there are many people that are completely unaware of this. We are more certain that people will be watch High Rollers thinking it is a standalone film, completely being oblivious to the original. We do not know as to why the creator titled these films two entirely different titles. Why not title "High Rollers" as "Cash Out 2" or "Cash Out: High Rollers". The director/ writers are doing a major disservice with its titling.However as a film, it's relatively much of the same, though the chemistry is better here among the main cast. Most of them return from the original. However Gina Gershon replaced Kristin Davis (portraying these type sake character).The film does feel stylish and although the main heist isn't as great as in the original. It is still watchable and there has a certain charm in casino heists.Comparing this film to Ocean's Eleven is simply doing a disservice to this film and you are only setting yourself up for disappointment. Of course you should not expect this film to be on the level of the Ocean films but that does not mean, this film isn't enjoyable. Do not pay attention to the one star reviews simply because they don't know this film is a sequel.

Why Am I Still Watching These Movies

It's a B-movie, so I don't approach it with the same eye as I would a blockbuster... but there's a limit.I saw the first one out of curiosity and, well, to put it candidly, it was barely entertaining. This sequel is less painful to sit through and a little more entertaining. But let's be clear: without John Travolta, this movie is a total mess. And it also has the worst poker game ever put on screen.This time, the premise is straight out of any casino heist movie you can think of, but the execution is very sloppy. At least the film leans a little more toward comedy than Cash Out, and honestly, that's the right move - it's what I wanted for the first film.The rest of the acting is average, probably worse than in the first one, even though it's the same main cast. To put is simple: the script, direction, and characters all needed more work. The dialogue often makes no sense, and some characters are simply useless to the story arc - like the kid. You'll get it if you ever sit through this.It's marketed as a slick B-movie, but let's be honest... this is closer to C-movie territory, with only Travolta keeping it afloat.Travolta still has presence. Whenever he's on screen, and I mean only him, you almost forget how bad everything else is. Like I said in my review of the first film, I really hope he uses projects like these as stepping stones back into something worthy of his talent, because he still has so much to offer.Would I watch it again? Nope. But yes, I'll still watch the third one coming... because I love seeing Travolta on screen.
