90 minutes of pain

I always commit to watching a movie from start to finish but this had me struggling. The opening scenes were such poorly acted that I thought they were being over the top for a movie within a movie. Nope, this was the precedent for the remainder of the movie. The actors were very poor along with a predictable script. I can only assume the high ratings are coming from friends snd family of the crew.

Someone stuffed the ballot box

I've seen a lot of reviews that say "worst ever" and I always try to avoid that in my reviews. But if any movie deserves that label, this comes close. The acting is horrible. The lawyer and agent are so overplayed it is crazy. The actor playing Kenneth is poor at best. Likewise the daughter.Claire Montgomery as Billie Mac is more complicated. She has some really bad moments, some that are just poor and a few that are reasonable. Lisa Fenimore's acting isn't very good, but her singing is. She sings a couple of times acapella. When she sings on stage at the end, she does a poor job faking the guitar, and the soundtrack fills in an orchestra that isn't there. The sets are plain. The story is bad enough without the bad acting. The first half to 2/3rds goes between stupid and boring. The climatic scene is acted so badly it doesn't help the story. At the beginning, Hope and Kenneth seem to fall in love in a few minutes, although they have a rough spot later on. The ending or epilogue is just fantasy. My title refers to ballot box stuffing for the rating. There are a ton of 10 ratings, but almost no 9 or 8. From 8 the distribution creeps up smoothly as the score goes down until 1 which is the most other than 10. In other words, the distribution makes sense if you ignore the 10's. Without the 10's the weighted score would be well under 5, or perhaps as low as any movie I've ever seen here.

What a disappointment

I hated giving this only three stars because I think that the characters could've been likable (at least most of them), but there were so many things that were wrong with this movie that can't be ignored. The premise, although nothing new, had promised, but the writing was awful, which didn't leave a whole lot for the actors to work with, who often sounded wooden and uninspired. And unfortunately, it was apparent that some of the bad acting wasn't necessarily a result of a badly written script. Some of the performances were way over the top, while some were just lackluster. And for the most part, the pace was plodding. All in all, and sn unfortunate addition to the holiday movie lineup.
