A love letter to people who turn emotions into anthems

You don't have to love country music to appreciate this one - you just have to love music. It All Begins with a Song (2018) takes you inside Nashville's songwriting machine ... a behind-the-scenes love letter to the people who turn emotions into anthems, where lyrics hit harder than the whiskey. Insightful and easy to watch while doing just about anything else - maybe even drinking whiskey. Recommend.

Songwriting's Invisible Architects

A fascinating documentary that illuminates the foundational elements of songwriting. What this film does best is highlight the highs and lows of life in the music industry. Just like those who fight traffic and punch a time card, the creative minds behind some of the biggest songs of the past 50 years approach songwriting like a 9-to-5 job. They are constantly writing and coming up with ideas in hopes of securing a song that will resonate with a mass audience. And, if their work does become successful, they often become the faceless talent that most of us don't know. This documentary illustrates the joy of finding just the right word to express the emotion that binds the audience to the song. However, it also doesn't shy away from the struggles of making that connection. The highlight of the movie comes from watching Jessi Alexander and Connie Harrington, two of the songwriters behind Lee Brice's poignant song, "I Drive Your Truck", talk about how they took a tragic real-life event and turned it into a beautiful tribute.Thousands of songs are created every day, but only a handful find an audience. This is a wonderful exploration of the facets that go into creating music that will last for generations.
