The film begins as a microhistory, focusing on the fate of several Polish colonists in Jamestown. Because the source material is so sparse, the story is rather general, and John Smith's favorable opinion of Poles is constantly repeated. Okay, I don't doubt that he valued Poles, but does it need to be repeated so many times? There are some interesting stories here, such as the story of the first strike in Jamestown.Towards the very end, the film recalls, rather haphazardly, the participation of various Poles, especially military commanders (e.g., Tadeusz Kosciuszko), in the American War of Independence and the favorable statements of US presidents about Poles. Finally, it mentions "Solidarnosc" (a trade union, and later a social and political movement, that played a significant role in the political and social changes in Poland in the 1980s and 1990s).I believe the film is aimed at the Polish American community, to highlight their ties to Poland. And this is more for the mature generation, those who remember Kosciuszko and Solidarnosc (because if they don't, they won't learn much about them from this film). For other viewers, the film will be a bit too monotonous, and by the end, completely chaotic. Perhaps it would have been worthwhile to create a series, devoting subsequent episodes to the stories of various Poles in American history-one about Jamestown, one about Kosciuszko, one about Pulaski, etc.-and to make it a bit more substantive.
