Boring middle

If you have read the synopsis or seen the trailer then you have seen this film. They tell you everything and the feature offers no depth. This film is missing character. It's very noisy. So very noisy throughout. There is lots happening but no actual content. I really liked the style and it looks cool. I also enjoyed the POV at the start and end but the middle was very repetitive with no subtlety. Maybe it's good to watch with buddies over a beer and not much else.

I can't say i liked the movie. I didn't, But i appreciated the obvious effort the actor:writer/director put into the project. I saw it in a theater because of Eli Roth's connection with it. There were great grindhouse trailers before the film. The movie takes place in an apartment. There is an epic level of blood and gore. There are only two actors. There's a prodigious amount of drug and alcohol use. There are some clever budget special effects that are fun. The villains in the film are bad actors. Though I respect the effort, there's no real payoff and it just kinda ends. I thought it might have been going in a direction that it didn't go. The guy wanted to make a movie and he did. While I didn't really like it, I'm glad the guy got to make his movie and i'm glad I paid to see it. I wouldn't watch it again though.

This was certainly something else...

While I had never heard about this 2024 movie titled "Jimmy and Stiggs" prior to sitting down to watch it here in 2025, I must admit that when I sat that the movie was written by, directed by and starring the one and same guy, then my expectations took a nose-dive. Yeah, I am not a fan of movies that has one guy behind the writers desk, the directorial chair and in front of the camera. The storyline in the movie, as written by Joe Begos, was pretty simplistic and straightforward. I mean, a guy in an apartment, doing drugs and then being visitor and abducted by aliens.Of the entire cast ensemble, I was only familiar with James Russo. The acting performances in the movie were okay.Visually, then the movie is a tour de force. The colors are vibrant and there are some nice visuals in the movie. There is a lot of flashing lights in the movie, so just a heads up if you are sensitive to flashing lights. The movie sort of looks and feels like a really bad drug-induced trip, given the chaotic camera movement and the neon colors. I did not, however, like the point-of-view style way that most of the movie was filmed. The effects in the movie were actually fair. The movie does have an ambitious low budget feel to it, but it actually was something that worked in favor of the movie. Now I am sure that a niche movie such as this certainly will have a base audience out there. It is, however, somewhat of an acquired taste, as it can be a bit too much at times. I enjoyed it, because the movie was so far over-the-top that it was a blast to watch and witness. If you're looking for some entertainment that goes beyond the mainsteam of regular movies, then give "Jimmy and Stiggs" a gander. My rating of writer and director Joe Begos's 2024 movie "Jimmy and Stiggs" lands on a six out of ten stars.
