A nostalgic, heartfelt Aussie watch with stunning scenery

Let's start with the one downside - the American accents are pretty rough and a little distracting at first. Once you get past that, though, this movie really settles into something special. The heart of the film is its wholesome family story and the authentic emotional connections between the characters. It feels old-school in the best way - slow enough to actually sink into the story, with genuine warmth and depth. The ending is a real tear-jerker.It was great to see Erik Thomson again - such a familiar face and a reminder of classic Australian acting talent. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous too - sweeping shots of Kangaroo Island and the Aussie outback make this a beautiful film to watch.Overall, this is a nostalgic, wholesome, locked-in movie that pulls you out of the noise and into something simple, emotional and grounding. Definitely worth the watch if you love heartfelt stories and stunning Australian landscapes.

Lost Luggage

This film really makes you want to travel to Kangaroo Island.Impossible beauty is the backdrop to this delightful film. Lou, who is living in LA and has a tiny substance abuse problem, unwittingly returns to her island home where she reunites with her father and sister. Lou's ex love is now married to her sister, Freya.Past and present personal and family dramas ensue. However, Timothy David intertwines the drama & trauma with comedy and a great down to Earth feel. Very much needed in our dark and ridiculous timeline. The three leads, Rebecca Breeds, Erik Thomson and Adelaide Clemens, are well cast. Have never come across Breeds before, but I'll be on the lookout for her future projects. Louis Henbest was also a standout. Also great to see some Australian acting icons in there by way of 'Bad Boy Bubby' and 'Rita Connors'.Anyway, back to holiday planning...

Return to Eden

Stunning scenery complements a messy tale of deception and death that seems to be stalking a struggling actress whose fortuitous return to her home co-incides with old sibling rivalry and some new and devastating revelations.Pleasing to see the filmmakers didn't over-engineer the story into a six hour struggle, sensibly opting instead for a more compact feature film that tells of the hardships experienced by sisters who've taken very different paths in life, but retain bonds which keep them in common.NZ actor Thomson has always been an affable leading man from his early TV days on 'Pacific Drive' then 'All Saints' and in more recent years playing mellow dads which he continues here in a mature, dignified performance parlaying his natural sincerity.Well-lit and photographed, there's a lot happening not all of which advances the plot (e.g. The car collision, child's accident, unrequited love etc), and I thought it could've been 20 minutes leaner and still been just as effective. For the sake of a bit more glorious scenery though it's not a bad yarn, very picturesque and worth a look.
