A modern yet faithful presentation

Comes across as a high budget version of "The Chosen," crossed with the novel "Ben Hur." Few have read "Ben Hur," but Wallace periodically interrupts the narrative for lectures providing historical context of life in 1st century Judea. Unlike the Wallace lectures, which while informative are somewhat tedious, Costner found the right balance.

Good storytelling

A great watch for the storytelling alone, Kevin Costner has the perfect voice for this kind of work. The first Christmas tells the biblical tale surrounding the birth of Jesus as told by interviews as well as reenactments. The production value and acting for the reenactments was good, well worth watching.

Interesting view of the background story

I really enjoyed the historical and educational information shared during this depiction of the Nativity. I thought the (unknown to me) actors did a great job in their roles.It was tough to watch some of the violent scenes, but they needed to be shared.Thanks to Kevin Costner for bringing this story to us in a different way.
