A somewhat pulpy story that turns out was perfectly true.I don't know and I don't suppose anybody truly knows the inner workings of Pauline's mind and of her heart and the movie also does not show us enough about her past, her motivations and her feelings so I was taken aback by things that came to light later. Also I never got a sense of how attached she really was to Felix, she appeared quite detached and he was the clingy one, at least in the beginning. So to see things take such a turn and for that reason was a surprise for me as a viewer.It could be that this was a deliberate choice from the filmmakers given the sensationalist accounts at the time and the fact that there's really nobody who can say for certain. It's just that for the story I felt it was missing some insight, otherwise it veers into documentary fiction.Still, a short, crisp narration and captivating enough, with a gorgeous, mysterious lead and some good old-fashioned sexism all over the proceedings.
