Fails the landing

Firstly: Extremely hard to get ahold of. Which, I guess comes with being a film festival movie... Secondly: While I'll avoid specific spoilers, I will be touching in broad strokes about the topics of the movie. Now: I can say that the trailer kinda emphasizes what this movie fails at. As, it never goes through with anything. Now, to be clear: It DOES have several good parts, that is clever satire. But that is undermined by the fact it never commits. Which, I guess if you want to be pedantic: Is kinda on point with the story. But, the story doesn't take itself seriously. *Except* at the end. Which, just doesn't add up. Like, to make a non-spoiler analogy: They show a montage of "The Dark Lord" murdering innocent orphans in exaggerated, graphic Rick and Morty level of detail. Then, they turn around and give the Dark Lord a happy ending, because "It's important to love yourself.". Like... how am I supposed to take that seriously? I'm supposed to happy about the fact he got to murder orphans without consequences? It has some cognitive dissonance tbh. They're just haphazard with several topics. Which, is a shame as they *could* have had a big impact if they put some effort into it. But they always just chicken out from going all the way. Which, does ironically put them on a similar level as misogynistic adult content creators. As they do all they can to avoid offending the status quo. Though, only *almost* as said. They DO actually have a few jokes that put them above that. But, still.Like, to circle back to the trailer: They showcase they have gore... and they fail to ante up. Much like a suspicious amount of Indie horror games: They ONLY harm innocent women. It just leaves a bad taste. (Which, *could* have been good social commentary... except they do nothing with it, outside of shock value.) Likewise: The trailer shows nudity. They fail to eclipse that too. Now, granted: This IS from Australia. So, the obscenity laws are in effect. But the fact they blindly followed them with "triangle pubes" and "baby smooth" is disappointing... like, you could at least have *implied* that someone had been at the long bacon store.I will say: They DO kinda *almost* have a good enough vulgar clam joke. But it does lack teeth. Which, considering the whole theme of this... you WOULD expect it to at least have that. Thankfully, it at least delivers. And isn't just one of those clinical "my vajjaaaina!" type ordeals. It IS still an interesting movie. But it is kinda littered with the "*could* have been great". In an oddly specific analogy: It's a lot like a kids show that wants to be edgy. So they introduce a nonbinary character. BUT: They still blindly follow gender norms. So you 100 % know whats in the characters pants, whether or not they are allowed to show nipples in the beach episode.Like, there IS some subversive stuff. But... none of it goes anywhere. So, it makes it fall very flat when the movie suddenly expects you to take is seriously... when it has done nothing to earn that. Which is a shame, as it is VERY close to have a good message. But instead, it basically just tells me "Only YOU can prevent forest fires!" with a straight face. (Pun intended.) It makes me expect growth, yet there is none. (A certain character is in ALL the promos, and... nothing.)Still, it IS a unique work. And it IS pushing boundaries. So... I could see a more proper version of something like this within a decade. So, that is a positive this movie helped contribute with. But it's just LITERRED with missed opportunities. Along with moments I was sure either a man wrote, or it was written to *avoid* offending a man. I can get having a different vision. But... I fail to see what that vision would have been. Best way I can put this, is that it's basically a 10 episode series. That ends on episode 7. And, that's it. No script or speculations. It just ends. I did really want to like this... But it just doesn't cut it. Which is a shame.

I guarantee that many will be too offended to enjoy this one.

"Lesbian Space Princess" is a film shown at the Philadelphia Film Festival and I think it doesn't take Einstein to think that this film will NOT appeal to everyone! After all, it's a gay cartoon...and with, no surprise, a lot of adult content. The story begins with Princess Saira being dumped by her latest girlfriend. Much of it is probably due to Saira's neediness...which scares away potential partners. Part of it, you learn later, is that the hottie who broke up with her is a jerk. But before this becomes evident and after she leaves, the evil Straight White Maliens kidnap her and demand the Princess come rescue her within 24 hours...or else. But the Princess feels painfully inadequate...as she sees herself as pretty much useless. And, through the course of the film, she manages to sum up courage she never knew she possessed. This is a crude film with lots of crude jokes....fine for adults but NOT for kids...or your mother...or Father Quigley is he happens to be visiting. But it is funny and very well made and is great...for select audiences, though this 61 year-old straight guy enjoyed it.
