Well directed

Congratulations to the director, cast & crew. This film was well directed, well cast & looks high budget due to the cinematography & set design.Great sensitivity.Congratulations on Melbourne International Film Festival.More success is sure to come.

Australia 1971

The story takes place in the time of the conservative McMahon government and on the cusp of to embracing change in the form of Gough Whitlam and the first Labor government for 23 years. The film is a sensitive portrayal of how people in Australia handled problems like loss and separation at the time and its rural setting provides the backdrop for some great scenes of a blue V8 Ford Falcon rumbling, chugging, throbbing along dirt roads emitting that sound to die for. Well done filmmakers for unearthing that automative treasure from 50 years ago and making the day of any petrol-head who watches . Watch out too for a glimpse of a white S series Valiant.

Lacking characterisation and substance

I wanted to give this film a positive review because I generally love Australian cinema, but I found the film to be utterly lacking. Despite the often lovely cinematography, and quintessential Australian setting, the film was boring. The characters were unexplored, had very little depth, and nothing that connected me with them or made me enjoy watching them. The narrating voice was trying too hard to be poetic and generate a sense of emotion in the observer but, unfortunately, the plot was so one-dimensional that it failed to generate any meaningful connection. All in all, a dull film that was pretending to be a lot more than what it was.
