Not a survival story

Like the other reviewers have already complained of, the film was 75 percent the story of the "rescuers", 20 percent about the abusive background the wife and children suffered from the father, (which while worth mentioning, had no part in the story), and 5 percent about the survival story we thought we were supposed to be viewing. An hour-long show with 55 minutes from the children's story would have been nice. But thats not what this was.

Reenactment or real footage?

Decent doc of a tragic airplane accident with plenty of video footage all throughout the 40 somewhat days. Somehow I couldn't tell if some scenes among the men were filmed and produced after the actual rescue. Not sure why it bothered me but it hung over me for some reason.They spent very little time sharing the kids' recount of their survival. It was mainly about the opposing search teams and the personal dramas. I guess its worth the watch to see first hand videos of the jungle terrain that the kids had to contend with. How they survived is truly a miracle but I'm glad we know more about the village drinking and dancing parties.

The Story Wasn't as Advertised

I was really excited to watch this movie - it was advertised as the story of how four kids survived the Colombian jungle. There were only brief moments of the kids' story - instead, we were listening to how the search parties were struggling and getting high. On top of this, we kept hearing the story of the horrible, abusive stepfather who beat up the mother of the kids as well as kids themselves. This was so disappointing!
