One of the worst brazilian films

The movie, despite its potential to honor one of Brazil's most iconic and beloved rock bands, ultimately falls short in multiple aspects, making it a disappointing cinematic experience. One of the film's biggest flaws is its superficial storytelling. Rather than diving deep into the personalities, struggles, and creative process of the band members, the film skims over important moments, relying heavily on clichés and a shallow narrative that fails to capture the true spirit and charisma that made the Mamonas so unique.The pacing of the movie also contributes to its downfall. It rushes through major events and emotional turning points without giving the audience time to connect or reflect. Key scenes that should carry emotional weight feel forced or underdeveloped, weakening the overall impact of the story.Additionally, the performances, while enthusiastic, often come across as exaggerated or artificial. Instead of paying tribute to the band's humor and energy, the acting sometimes borders on caricature, which undermines the real humanity of the Mamonas Assassinas. An excellent film about an excellent band

This film is a biopic of "MAMONAS ASSASSINAS", a comic rock band that had a huge success for only 8 months in 1995/96 in Brazil. It portrays the hard life of five musicians as they did petty jobs to scrape together money to make a record of their rock band "UTOPIA". A music producer advised them to change their style and to write lyrics that reflected what it was like to be a bunch of poor but very talented youngsters. This change made them incredibly famous overnight all over the country. In the film, the actors really caught the spirit of the real musicians, the production design shows the nineties in small details and the editing makes the movie very dynamic. The sound track made me cry my heart out because, as a Brazilian, I witnessed their success. I also remember crying as all five of them died when the small plane they were in crashed into a mountain minutes after an unsuccessful landing in the airport of Guarulhos, their hometown. It was a great loss as their career had only just begun. They were scheduled to make a long tour in Portugal, which might have triggered their international success. Give this film a chance. You won't regret it.
