Almost Supreme

What a surprise of a movie this is. It almost feels like it came out of nowhere and took over the world. Is it really that good? Here are the positives and negatives of Marty Supreme:Positives: The cinematography and storytelling are absolutely fantastic. You easily get invested in the story, which moves with fast-paced, exhilarating energy. Timothée Chalamet deserves all the recognition he's getting. His performance is emotional, tense, and raw, shining in every scene. Odessa A'zion also delivers a powerful performance, perfectly matching the tone of the film.The writing and dialogue feel believable and well-crafted. Marty Supreme is a divisive film in a fascinating way. You might see it as a story about addiction, a simple tale of a ping pong player, or a depiction of a bad person spiraling into worse situations. I love that original movies like this still exist and get recognition. The story is unique and doesn't end the way you might expect, which is refreshing.Negatives: Not everything is perfect. Some scenes could have been cut to make it shorter. The anxiety driven momentum of this film can give you a headache. I would have preferred a few slower, more cinematic moments instead of multiple unnecasary sex scenes. That would give the movie some room to breathe.Marty himself is a complex character , you don't exactly root for him, yet I found myself wanting him to succeed. That's a personal reaction but others might find him unlikable, which could impact their enjoyment.Overall: This might be my favorite movie of the year. It's far from flawless, but it gets so many things right, and I can see myself rewatching it when I own it for my collection. Marty Supreme is divisive, provocative, and driven by a character you might not love but I still enjoyed every moment. Marty is a charming, fast-talking presence who keeps you glued to the screen.
