For a Hallmark Audience Only, But it's a Good One.

Now we are talking! Let's start with the warning, though. This here is a Hallmark movie. You know what that means. If you don't, well, Hallmark is, like, a holiday behemoth. Exactly like Harlequin/Mills & Boon is known for romantic novels with a very specific kind of covers, Hallmark is doing exactly that with Christmas movies. And all of them (OK, OK, most of them) are exactly the same. The only thing that changes is the motif. Like, this one is about, say, a doctor, this one is about an inn, while that one is taking place in, say, Scotland. Everything else is exactly the same. A young lady finds herself in a certain place (usually a remote one), where she meets her new love. Which usually isn't love from the first sight.So... Yeah. That's exactly what we've got in Melt My Heart This Christmas. Our lady here is a glassblower, who dreams of showcasing her works on a fair, while our man is the fair's owner. Blah-blah-blah, they lived happily ever after (and no, it's not a spoiler, that's just how Hallmark things work and everybody knows that, it's, like, the main idea). Therefore, if you're looking for something unique or at least for something with twists? Keep looking. This here is not for you. Why did I rate it so high then?Well, you see, Hallmark is a thing. A thing for a very specific audience, sure, but it's a thing and there's a demand for it. Me, for example? Huge fan. Not everything needs to be major cinema. People need cute little heartwarming films too. I mean, it's Christmas, right? Sitting near the Christmas tree, sipping hot cocoa and watching such movies one after another? It feels good. Not for everybody, sure, for some of us something like that feels like a personal nightmare, but like I said, some of us like that. Therefore, while rating such movies, I think we should treat them differently. I mean, what matters here is not complexity and not originality. What matters here is chemistry. Does the couple in this movie work? Yep. Did seeing them together make me happy? Yep. Did this movie leave me with a heartwarming aftertaste? Yep again. So yeah, this movie works. What else could one ask for? Also, since Melt My Heart This Christmas is a movie about artists, they went beyond average with the filmmaking and, for example, played a bit with colors. Don't expect anything big (again, this here is a rather cheap Hallmark movie, in which they didn't even bother to reshoot messy takes much), but still, it's a thing. So, at the end of the day, Melt My Heart This Christmas is an instant no for Hallmark haters. If hearing the words "Hallmark marathon" makes you panic and scream, don't even think about this. But if, like yours truly, you like Hallmark and just want to know whether this one works or not? Yes, it works and you should add it to your watchlist this Christmas.

Uneven at first. Gets better

For starters the soundtrack is overpowering at times. The flow seems uneven. The humor is based on missteps and misunderstandings.Stephen Huszar's Jack is unnaturally awkward. The relationship with Laura Vandervort's Holly is stiff. Any romance between them is barely justified by the story.I thought Vandervoort does a nice job of the timid assistant in a confusing situation.Much of the movie is about Holly and Bianca. Holly is supposed to be the student, but she is trying to build up Bianca.Like so many movies of this type, there is a secret held by one of the leads. The secret has the potential to create big problems for Holly.I liked the way the writers turned things around for all involved. I didn't see it coming.
