Horrible editing makes what should be a great documentary unwatchable

I wanted to love this documentary. My wife and I are in our later 50s, and have an appreciation for rock-n-roll history. The subject of this documentary has nearly unlimited stories and anecdotes that could probably fill an entire season versus a one-off documentary film. The problem with this film is the editing. I mean no offense, because I know it is hard (having edited music videos and other smaller productions ... a great edit does not get proper credit, and a bad one gets all the blame). But honest it is so bad that we gave up on the documentary entirely. It just was not watchable. Topics jump around like crazy. Questions are asked but then we do not get to hear the answer. The opening is a bizarre lengthy series of clips that feel like they were possibly going to be used as a teaser trailer, but after several minutes of that I had to fast-forward to get to the content of the film. With proper editing, this could be a strong 8 or 9 out of 10 documentary. I like the questions asked, but for the sake of the viewer the editor needs to dial back the creativity button and just focus on themes and one topic at a time. And pro tip: don't obscure historical segments with an overlay that blocks part of what the viewer sees. The rectangular block on the left that partially covered up EVERY single historical segment was both annoying and bizarre. If I had the cash flow and time to spend, I would offer the buy this film and do a entirely new edit that everyone (including the filmmakers and Miss O'Dell herself!) deserves. I hate to give this a poor review as I am sure it is a passion project for everyone involved, and know that there are glimpses of awesomeness here and there, but it just needs to be completely reworked to work.
