Another great 2026 Hallmark movie

Hallmark has come out of the gate exceptionally well in 2026, it's January offering capped off by "Missing the Boat", another on-location movie - this one set in Italy - starring one of the network's biggest stars, Kristoffer Polaha and "Chesapeake Shores" alum Emilie Ullerup. The chemistry between Polaha and Ullerup is off the charts. Their characters are perfect for each other, and the script - complete with Dad Jokes that Polaha delivers perfectly - really does the two stars justice. The supporting cast, where sometimes Hallmark lets itself down, was great as well, especially Amy Louise Pemberton. Also, the Italian scenery - fantastic. Like another star of the movie.I've long said the 'on location' Hallmark films are the best that the network does annually, and "Missing the Boat" is more evidence of that fact. It's a fun, if sometimes predictable and goofy, movie with plenty that'll make you smile.

Dad jokes and an Italian adventure

7.8 stars. With the clever jokes (some were actually funny) minus the dad jokes, and the fun banter between the romantic couple; 'Missing the Boat' is a breath of fresh Ionian air. Much of the adventure happens on the southeastern coast of Italy and the scenery is amazing. I feel that the main attraction of the film is the scenery, but with Polaha and Ullerup as the leads, that makes three main attractions. These two can transform a flop into a fluffy experience, and they did just that.I won't get too specific, just to say this is a good generic movie about two pretty people who get stuck on the mainland as their cruise ship continues to travel around Italy. They are hectic in trying to get back on board, but get stranded several times for various reasons; and in the process they get very acquainted. It's not without some authentic scenes and semi-original moments, which elevates 'Missing the Boat' into another category, one that includes Hallmark's elite travel films--the entertaining ones. Now for some continuity errors. They booked a private charter vessel from Syracuse to Taranto, Italy and give us the impression it takes 2 or maybe 4 hours, but this would literally take 12+ hours. And then they ride 63 km to Monopoli on a moped, which would probably take at least two hours, probably three or four. And that little moped, I'm gonna guess it would add additional hours. They decide to ride further to Bari, which is another 41 km--another 90 minutes. We are talking about roads in Italy on a mini-moped. The filmmakers wish for us to believe an eighteen hour voyage/trek can be done in eight? I don't feel this detracted from the experience, though.

Med Cruise

The trouble is, the leads go on an excursion and miss the boat until late in the movie. But there is still another couple on the cruise and plenty of good scenery. As of this writing, and as is frequently true with Hallmark movies, early credits on this site are often incomplete and/or highlight the wrong leads. Our leads, obviously, are Kristoffer Polaha and Emilie Ullerup. The Hallmark regulars have starred together in a Christmas movie years ago. Hearts of Christmas (2016). As you might expect with veterans who have worked together before, they have good chemistry. The conflict is very predictable given an earlier secret. Its resolution comes a little too easily. The climax was a bit of a surprise but not a big deal.
