An Epic Adventure in the Heart of America

From a tiny stream in the pine forests of Minnesota, through huge lakes just barely free of ice, the Mississippi grows over 500 miles before it even gets to Minneapolis. Then it's 26 locks and dams and the rolling high hills of the Driftless area until the famous St. Louis arch, the infamous Chain of Rocks rapids and the dangerous port of St. Louis. The last thousand miles are arguably the largest wilderness in the contiguous U. S., with up to 72 miles of river bottoms between the levees. Vanishingly few people have paddled the entire river, only eight teams have set the Guinness World Record. This documentary shows what it took to be the eighth and most recent team-a 24/7 non-stop adventure through an extreme environment hidden in plain sight in the center of the country. The film shows how much teamwork and heart it took, and how a sense of humor and camaraderie propelled the team to success. The filmmakers were embedded in the support crew and obviously worked their tales off capturing a one-of-a-kind rocket run. Highly recommend!

Authentically real

Because the film documents an actual record attempt (and not a dramatized fiction), the stakes feel genuine. The support-crew logistics, the daily grind, the unpredictability of the elements, all of this isn't glamorized. It's a real story of people who were pushing their minds and bodies to the limit without any guarantee that it would work out.

Eye Opening Adventure

When watching the documentary, I felt I was part of the adventure. They invited the viewer to join the paddlers as they descend the Mississippi River. The night time footage of Baton Rouge really got my attention. Because of the documentary, one realizes just how trying the trip was for not only the paddlers, but also for their support team. Therefore when they reach the end, I felt myself rooting for everyone involved.
