Plot summary

After the death of his father, a 16-year-old boy struggles with anger and instability, distancing himself from his mother. His search for escape leads him to a lonely dominatrix living nearby, a woman accustomed to giving and controlling pain. Drawn to her world, he seeks both solace and love, while she finds herself pulled into a bond that neither expected but both need.

Misses the mark

Charlie comes home, and there is a party going on. But in the garage is his father who hanged himself, and Charlie blames himself. Never mind that his mother was having an affair. Being 16, he is at that rebellious stage in life. His mode of travel is by bicycle, and one day comes up to this large house, and sees a beautiful woman, Maggie. Maggie puts up a sign at a local store for a gardener, and Charlie applies, telling her he is 18, and can be discrete. One might think one stepped into a French movie, rather than one from Australia, as there is plenty of smoking. It turns out Maggie is a BDMS Mistress, although if one is looking for scenes or insight, one will be disappointed. Needless to say, Charlie falls in love with Maggie, which is not a good idea. One might say it gets complicated. In reality, it simply gets messy and loses any impact over a serious subject.

We are all damaged in some way .......

Watched this film via a recommendation from the Amazon lists, and found it a very strange film indeed. It is not one I can describe easily, as it both uplifted me and also brought me down at the same time.It is - almost - a love story between two damaged and incomplete people, trying to find something that can make them whole, but not knowing at the time, that they are simply running away from reality.Some stunning images, clothing, and scenes bring the story to great heights, but the ending - although what needed to happen - brought things crashing down, and left me feeling very sad for both of them. A good film overall.
