How far will an estate agent go?

Due to her financial situation a London estate agent called Natasha Flynn (Polly Maberly) becomes embroiled in a kidnapping involving a rival estate agent and gangsters. Director Gerard Johnson's 2024 feature film is a psychological drama/thriller whose screenplay by Austin Collings and Johnson sometimes has the feel of an all in the mind nightmare trip into the dark corners of an estate agent's life, as it asks the question how far will an estate agent go? In this case it's an estate agent with toothache, a cocaine habit, mood swings, and who is up to her eyeliner in debt, whilst seemingly losing her marbles with paranoia creeping in. It all ends in a violent climax in a spooky old farm house in Essex in what appears to be a very dark, dry, satirical comedy, whose estate agent hard sell to potential customers scenes are amusing and one of this film's undisputed highlights. Filmed in Camden and Hertfordshire, and featuring some colourful supporting roles, this works up to a point, despite at times contrived looking arguments.

Not even close

No pun intended - but if you choose a title like that you should really be vary of what it means and if it really is fitting. I may be nitpicking here, but our main character has some issues and she has to go through stuff - but they are not close to an Odyssey and they are often problems of her own making. That said, there are things touched upon that are more than noteworthy ... sexism is one of the biggest issues we see here. Her being unable to get to do things because of her gender. On the other hand, while you see inefficient people (bank meeting to name one example), she always adds fuel to the fire. Also the way we are introduced to her ... by not paying her (horrendous) medical bill ... now again, there is the other side of it: healthcare system in the UK does not seem that much better than the one they have in the US.So as I say there are things that I liked here - and others I didn't ... the ending was really good - though not for individuals who may be too sensitive. Also the Viking ... well a bit over the top, the actor is just amazing and he brought some gravitas to it all ... not that we totally understand their (past) story.A mixed bag ... live and "let" live - well there is another pun the movie likes to give us ...
