Not worth the effort...

Well, the movie's cover wasn't exactly doing much of a grand job of selling the movie in a particularly interesting way, now did it? I mean, it is a rather simplistic cover that sort of hints at something with perhaps an alien abduction or something, given the green light illuminating the house.When I stumbled upon this 2024 sci-fi comedy titled "Operation War Thunder", here in 2025, I had never heard about the movie, nor did I know what I was in for, aside from the scarce information provided by the movie's synopsis. But still, with the movie being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to give it the benefit of the doubt.Writers James Peakman and Andrew Simpson put together a script and storyline that failed to entertain me. It was an excruciatingly slow paced narrative, which was fully and wholly devoid of comedy. So it was a struggle to sit through this ordeal of a movie.I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. It was a small cast ensemble in the movie. The acting performances were bland. I wasn't particularly impressed with what I saw on the screen.Definitely not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.My rating of director James Peakman's 2024 movie "Operation War Thunder" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

A pleasant, enjoyable watch.

I gave this film a whirl after seeing the directors previous film 'The Shimian' back when it was released in 2022 and I wanted to see how this film compares in quality, and how they have improved.I was thoroughly impressed by the craftsmanship of 'Operation War Thunder'. Working with a small budget and a relatively small crew, I believe that they managed to create a film that had a great use of humour, serious themes and I found myself genuinely enjoying how charming it was.It's one of those movies where you can watch and see just how much fun the crew had when orchestrating the production. Give it a whirl if you have some free time.

I've seen worse with far bigger budgets

Basically, if you're setting yourself up to watch your big Friday/Saturday night movie, this isn't the one to go for. Indeed, I'd give it a miss on several other days as well. Although, on one of those days when you're bored stiff, you've somehow managed to watch everything else that you fancied and this is the only thing available, then give it a go. The acting of smaller part players is quite laughable, the plot - dodgy though it is - is distinct madness, and many other aspects are also pretty grim.However, on the plus side, it does contain several proper good laughs, the main two actors are not terrible, and in general, it has a quintessential charm that garage made movies can sometimes have.Overall, far from the worst thing I've seen and given the budget of what looks to be about three hundred quid, not a bad job.
