Emotional not informative

Giving this a 6 stars as judging on the merits of what was shown; acting good, beautiful cinematography etc. A bit disappointed because I went into watching the film thinking it would give me a better understanding of what happened, and the facts around the whole event but it didn't. It was a film about the emotional impact on the family (one particular scene involving cake on the floor stands out there) which is still moving in its own right; it just feels like a missed opportunity to lay out the facts around the event. Personally I found the scene with Jacinda gave me great sadness too... I remember how briefly wonderful it was to have a leader who actually cared; I miss her empathy and the days when there was hope NZ had made so much progress as a nation. Now, it's hard to hear the vile sentiment of hate towards her without grieving the loss of that progress, and the general kindness that went with it. Overall, an emotional story of an important event in NZ history. May the lessons have been learned well so this never happens again.

Great Movie but you were missing something important out

I loved this movie, it captured everything correctly about kiwis and this tragic part of New Zealand history. I feel like that there was a little left leaning bias. While it showed that National dropped the ball, it failed to mention that Labour did too a few years down the track. Regardless I think the Actors and production team definitely did an excellent job. Well done.

Powerful acting

My eyes watered countless times as these three powerful women put me in the shoes of the Pike River families. But you must know, this is not just a tribute to the workers and their families. It's a David vs Goliath battle; a crusade for justice against a legal system corrupted at the highest levels. The master stroke in this film is Helen Kelley. She is a symbolism of David-like victories against big corporations in New Zealand. The question is, after many years battling for worker rights, can she win against this extreme level of corruption? No other actor on earth could portray such a NZ hero as stoically as Lucy Lawless - this was an incredible tribute I wasn't expecting.
