Plot summary

A Bold, Thrilling and Wildly Entertaining Indie Surprise

I genuinely enjoyed this film from start to finish. It is a clever and sharply executed comedic thriller that takes a simple premise and turns it into something far more gripping. This is one of those rare independent films that pulls you in immediately and keeps raising the intensity with every scene. You can feel the passion behind the filmmaking and it elevates the entire experience.Adam Daniel Mezei delivers a performance that absolutely deserves recognition. As "The Captor," he cycles through multiple personas (and costumes) with such dedication and presence that it becomes impossible to look away. He is chilling one moment and darkly hilarious the next, always keeping the audience off balance in the best possible way. Each shift in character adds new tension and unpredictability. It is the kind of bold, fearless acting that defines a film.Erin Pitt is equally compelling as "Skylar." She brings heart, strength and a raw vulnerability to a character fighting to survive an impossible situation. Her reactions feel authentic, and her resolve builds in a way that makes us genuinely root for her. The dynamic between Pitt and Mezei is electric. Their back and forth is gripping, emotional and often surprising, giving the film a pulse that never slows down.There are moments that make you laugh, moments that make you hold your breath and moments that land with unexpected emotional weight. The story is tight and creative, and the filmmakers use every resource they have to craft something original and memorable. This is independent filmmaking at its most confident.I have already added this film to my personal library and I know I will be rewatching it. I highly recommend checking it out. Mesmerizing from start to finish

Play Along is the kind of independent film that sneaks up on you.Adam Daniel Mezei is exceptional. His performance is precise, nuanced, and explosive at the best times. Nothing about it feels showy or try-hard. He's just fully there, grounding the entire movie in something painfully real.The cinematography kept my attention the whole time and surprised me with it's dark and moody tones.

I like and support independent stories (film, writing, any kind of venue and form really) as much as the next person, but It must be entertaining. The more I saw of this movie, the more strongly I felt that this story wanted to be a theatre play. In fact, in the form of a long feature, it works a lot like a recorded theatre play. The acting is brilliant and there is a very original idea here. The main problem is this : it is boring. It drags. It relies too much on the original idea and on the good acting. But that alone does not good filmmaking make. This is only partially good because the strong points are really convincing, but they're only half of what you need to make brilliance happen.
