A Tale Of Two Brothers

This movie has a kind of slow pace to it, but it builds quite nicely and it really is - from the start - a pretty effective psychological thriller (with stress on "psychological.") This isn't full of chills and thrills and action and mayhem. It's the story of two brothers - older brother Peter and younger brother Alex. Peter is living in a big home on a big property and he's wearing an ankle monitor, but there's never really any explanation about what he did to get the ankle monitor. Alex is an Afghanistan veteran who comes home on leave and essentially moves in with his brother. Alex is clearly suffering from some kind of PSTD from his time in Afghanistan. Things are off. It's hard to describe it better than that. But things are clearly off between the brothers. Alex is a bit wild with booze and women, while Peter is trying to play it clean. The mystery really picks up one night when Alex arranges for an escort to come to the house. It all escalates from there. In the end, you're left wondering what's real and what's not as things slowly unravel and get revealed.I actually really liked this movie. The setting gave this almost a "cabin fever" feel - although it was hard to really understand why Alex, once he was there, just refused to leave - simply insisting to his brother that he couldn't leave and not to tell anyone about his presence. There's the ongoing mystery of the missing murdered girl that was effectively woven into the overall story and the ending is not really a shock, but it leaves things a little bit open-ended. What did Peter eventually do? We'll never know.Derek Phillips and Josh Crotty were very effective as Peter and Alex, and while there are three other characters featured in the story, the entire movie pretty much revolves around them, so they needed to be effective. As I said, this is a psychological thriller more than an edge of your seat thriller - and it was appropriately mysterious and very enjoyable to watch. (8/10)

Awful, not a single participant can act

I always give low budget films the benefit of the doubt and have a high tolerance for the problems budgets cause. But really this film is awful in every way. None of the leads can act at all. Also the trope of the psychotic combat veteran is simply a bigotry.
